CEi Workshop 1 copy_edited.jpg

The Chinese and American Friendship Ministry (CAAFM) aims to broaden engagement with students from China who come to the U.S. for university education.

As an association, we have spent the last year in discernment and dialogue with partners and stakeholders across the U.S. We've also welcomed two new board members, Kathleen O'Brien and Alfred Gui, who serve as co-chairs of the Chinese and American Friendship Ministry.

Speaker Series Events

This year, the USCCA's speaker series, in collaboration with China Source and China Academic Consortium, hosted Dr. José Casanova on June 8, 2024 to speak on the topic of "The Three Phases of the Globalization of Catholicism in Asia, with special focus on developments in China."

Drawing from his extensive knowledge of the history of Catholic encounters in Asia, Dr. Casanova outlined three phases of globalization, each marked by its own particular challenges and controversies within the Church and adjacent communities.

In USCCA Book Circle Discussions, participants have gathered virtually from around the world to discuss dialogues between Catholics in the U.S. and in China.

In 2024, Book Circle participants learned about the relationship between Thomas Merton and John C. H. Wu, who built a friendship across the Pacific through their mutual interest in comparing Catholicism with Eastern spiritual traditions.
